Mayor Robert E. Clark of Monroe Selected as 2025 President of the Michigan Association of Mayors

Mayor Brenda F. Moore of Saginaw Selected as Vice President

The mayors of Monroe and Saginaw were recently selected to lead the statewide Michigan Association of Mayors (MAM) in 2025. Mayor Robert E. Clark was appointed to a one-year term as President and Mayor Brenda F. Moore was appointed to a one-year term as Vice President. Both were chosen at a MAM Board of Directors meeting on November 7, 2024.

MAM is the official nonpartisan organization of Michigan’s chief elected officials. Representing over 120 Michigan communities, MAM works to assist the chief elected officials of cities, townships, and villages advance the various interests and operations of communities represented by its members and all Michigan communities; promote cooperation among communities statewide; and advocate local interests at the state and federal levels.

Robert Clark was elected mayor of the City of Monroe in 2009 after serving one term as a councilmember prior to becoming mayor. Active within his community, Clark has served on the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, Downtown Development Authority, and several other local boards. He is a member delegate of the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG), currently serving on the Budget and Finance Committee. In addition, Clark has been engaged with the Michigan Municipal League for many years. In December of 2024, he completed his fourth and final term as a member of the League’s Liability & Property Pool Board of Directors, marking the end of 12 years of service on this Board. Clark also served as president of the League’s Board of Trustees in 2024 and has served on the MAM Board of Directors since 2020.

“I am excited to get to work on making the association the best it can be,” said Mayor Clark. “We have a lot to offer to our membership and beyond. Our training is invaluable, and I encourage our members and other mayors to attend. Increasing the attendance and participation at our events will give MAM a stronger voice. As leaders on the Board, we need to use the Listserv and newsletter to engage and energize members, as well as new mayors interested in MAM.”

Brenda Moore is a lifelong resident of the City of Saginaw and proud graduate of Saginaw High School and Delta College. When she was first elected to Saginaw City Council in 2013, she quickly became involved with the Michigan Municipal League by attending conferences and trainings to understand her role as a new official. Since then, Moore has completed all four levels of the League’s Elected Officials Academy (EOA) and has held several leadership roles within the League and its affiliate organizations. In 2019, she also became the first Black woman to serve as president of the League and was later awarded the Jim Sinclair Exceptional Service Award in 2021. This is an award that recognizes dedication to public service as well as passion and commitment to the League and its mission. Mayor Moore exemplifies all of these things through her enthusiastic support of the League’s purpose, along with her unwavering dedication to the City of Saginaw.

“It would be my honor and my privilege,” Mayor Moore said upon being chosen to serve as vice president. “I have had several conversations with Mayor Clark in the past about increasing MAM membership and moving MAM forward. I think we will make a dynamic duo.”

The following mayors were also appointed to the MAM Board of Directors during the meeting on November 7, 2024: Mayor Pam Colestock of Eaton Rapids, Mayor Valerie Kindle of Harper Woods, Mayor Gary Nelund of Norton Shores, and Mayor Tim Nemecek of Boyne City.
